I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was hard for me to put it down because I kept wanting to read just one more chapter. The characters in the book were woven together in an interesting way and the outcome for the Street Lady was not predictable.By the time I had read half of the book, I stayed up all night to finish reading it. I do not usually get that deeply involved in a book but I found this one intriguing. When I reached the epilogue, I was in tears.
I look forward to reading future books by Ms Carlson.

Overall a likeable story. She hits a nerve--a reality we don't want to face--it could and does happen to anybody and it may or may not be beyond your control. I appreciated that she touched on some of the difficulties, set backs, and discouragements and the inner turmoil that happens, as well as tackling the perceptions society has. My only gripe was that the language was very formal and people kept "greeting each other warmly." Other than that, good job.
It could happen to anyone. Sudden loss of income. Catastrophic loss of savings, maybe through illness. All of it leading to loss of home and security. Have you ever wondered, what if it happened to me? What if I found myself homeless? Lois D. Carlson takes the what if and turns it into a tender story of survival in Street Lady.
There is only a little woe-is-me in this story. While Ella may feel sorry for herself at times, Carlson has let Ella's inner strength show through as the story moves along. Not only is Ella helped by others, even one who appears to be a guardian angel, she reaches out to those in her path and extends a helping hand as well. Just for flavor, Carlson has also added a bit of a mystery where Ella's son is concerned and in the end, mother and son have both discovered courage they didn't know they had.
A nice story. Good ending.
The author, Lois Carlson, displays her talents in this book. Her story keeps you going throughout the book. Even though this is a fiction book, it reminds me that this happens to many people today and gives you compassion. I couldn't put the book down. This book is worth reading! I read her other book, Shadows of the Past!! Really good book too!!!
